Is Mentorship a Zakaah eligible project?

Zakaah has been categorized into 8 sections. Our project falls under working to endear our youth to Islaam, and Allaah knows best. Allaah az wa jal says :

إِنَّمَا ٱلصَّدَقَـٰتُ لِلْفُقَرَآءِ وَٱلْمَسَـٰكِينِ وَٱلْعَـٰمِلِينَ عَلَيْهَا وَٱلْمُؤَلَّفَةِ قُلُوبُهُمْ وَفِى ٱلرِّقَابِ وَٱلْغَـٰرِمِينَ وَفِى سَبِيلِ ٱللَّهِ وَٱبْنِ ٱلسَّبِيلِ ۖ فَرِيضَةًۭ مِّنَ ٱللَّهِ ۗ وَٱللَّهُ عَلِيمٌ حَكِيمٌۭ ۞

Alms-tax is only for the poor and the needy, for those employed to administer it, for those whose hearts are attracted ˹to the faith˺, for ˹freeing˺ slaves, for those in debt, for Allah’s cause, and for ˹needy˺ travellers. ˹This is˺ an obligation from Allah. And Allah is All-Knowing, All-Wise. Suratu Taubah : 60

Our project is specifically targeting dawah to young muslims who are somewhat distanced from Islaam. Providing material support, outtings, gifts and mentorship is a means to sculpting the islaamic identity within the next generation.

What is the reason you chose this work?

We are passionate about helping those who are lost, because we were once lost. Once having lived without Islaam, we can identify the range of emotions and issues that are exacerbated by not adhering to devine legislation. We hope we can serve as a bridge to help those who are still searching for their purpose.

How effective is mentorship in guiding youth to new perspectives?

Mentorship is very important, because if youth do not have a guiding hand, they will continue unhindered down the many paths that the shaytan beautify.
